Don’t worry. Be happy. Great concept, but sometimes happiness can seem without reach. How are we supposed to be joyful when our world feels like it’s falling apart? We’ve lost a job, a loved one, mistakes have been made, or life just simply seems to be getting us down. In those times of worry or heaviness, it is so imperative that we focus on joy, on reminding ourselves of the blessings we have.
What are some things that you prayed for in the past that you’ve seen come to fruition? Where have you felt God’s presence in the days that just feel so heavy? One of my favorite ways to get out of a feeling of funk is to turn on some praise and worship music and dance with my children. Maybe for you, that could mean going for a walk outside to appreciate the season changing, calling up a friend to grab a cup of coffee, or even just writing out your feelings so they are no longer weighing as heavily on you.
Then, you need to devote some extra time to Jesus. Spend time in His word. Spend time in prayer. The more time we give to God, the more we are able to manage the seemingly unmanageable. When we focus on His Word, His plan, His purpose, He can fill us with peace we couldn’t otherwise feel.
No matter how difficult the moment may be, it is only temporary. Push forward, and one day, you can look back and realize that you’ve come out of some tough situations, and I’ll bet if you’ve leaned into God in those moments, you’ve felt His presence all along.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
